ECB spokesman Andrew Walpole said, 'Steve Harmison has a non-serious hernia and he will require at some stage.

'The injury is not currently affecting his bowling at this time...The timing of the surgery will be decided by the England medical team.  We haven't pulled him out of the semi-final (yet).

Vaughan Steps Down as One-Day Captain

Yorkshire batsman Michael Vaughan quit as captain for England's one-day squad, but is available as a player in the limited-overs format.  Vaughan admits that he's never found a settled position in the batting order and averages just 27.15 from 83 innings.

In spite of his legendary success in Test cricket, Vaughan struggled through an 86-cap ODI career after becoming captain in June 2003.  He led England in 60 matches, winning 32 of those, with the lowest point being during the recent World Cup as England missed out on the semi-finals for the fourth tournament in succession.

In a statement released Monday evening Vaughan said, 'Since our disappointing performances in the World Cup, I have been giving careful consideration as to what is the best way forward for the England one-day team and my own role within the side.

'I reached the decision some time ago, but I did not want to announce it until after the end of this Test series to avoid it becoming a distraction to the team.

'Our priority is to build a one-day squad able to compete strongly at the next World Cup and I firmly believe that the interests of the team will be best served if I step down and allow another player to gain additional experience of captaincy in the one-day international arena.'
