World Cup Worries
England’s beleaguered cricketers have arrived in Sydney knowing they need a minor miracle in order to qualify for the Commonwealth Bank Finals. It is unbelievable to see how low in confidence some of England’s best cricketers are. The news that James Anderson is coming home early has probably added to everybody’s worries ahead of the World Cup squad being picked over the next couple of weeks.
As far as the squad for that tournament goes I still believe England have the nucleus of a team to be able to compete in this tournament. I would think the definites for the squad are Vaughan, Flintoff, Pietersen, Strauss, Joyce, Collingwood, Bell, Anderson, Lewis and Panesar. It will be fascinating to see what names the selectors bring out of the hat to compliment what I would regard as certainties.
The team are only going to have three weeks off before they set off on their World Cup journey, which is not very much time to regroup and restore confidence. Once they get to the World Cup they have two practice matches, one being against Australia, more good planning! I hope that things improve very quickly, or else the next key date maybe 24th March when England play Kenya in what could be a deciding crunch match to see who goes through from England’s group.
It would be great to see the lads finish with a win in Sydney or Brisbane over the next few days, but right this moment, lets not hold our breaths.
